SpVgg Greuther Fürth suffered a bitter defeat in the basement battle of the 2. Fußball-Bundesliga against 1. FC Magdeburg. The Fürthers had to admit defeat with 4:5, although they had taken the lead in the 8th minute through Brynjar Bjarnason. But after the unfortunate equalizer by Remo Münz's own goal, the Magdeburgers took apart the Kleeblatt defense. Mateusz Zukowski scored a hat-trick in the 15th, 29th, and 32nd minutes, and Rayan Ghrieb made it 4:1 in the 23rd minute. However, the Fürthers fought back and reduced the score through goals from Doni Arifi, Jan Elvedi, and Sayfallah Ltaief. But the Magdeburgers saved the win with a clearance on the line. Fürth's coach Heiko Vogel had surprisingly left out his top scorer Noel Futkeu from the starting lineup and brought in Philipp Ziereis for Aiman Dardari to secure the defense. The Fürthers did not give up, however, and fought back. But it was not enough for a point. The defeat is a setback in the fight for relegation. The Magdeburgers gave themselves some breathing room in the relegation battle and are now temporarily 12th in the table. The Fürthers must now focus on the next game and hope that they can score again soon. The fans of SpVgg Greuther Fürth hope that their team will soon be back on the right track.
