SpVgg Greuther Fürth has signed an experienced goalkeeper to rebuild their team. Christian Ortag joins from SSV Ulm to the 2. Bundesliga club. The 31-year-old, who was trained in the youth of Karlsruher SC and also played for FC Ingolstadt and Stuttgarter Kickers before his time in Ulm, joins the club on a free transfer and signs a three-year contract. He will take on the role of experienced backup for the young goalkeepers around new number one Florian Hellstern. Coach Heiko Vogel said: «Christian is completely behind this idea and role, which we see him in. For us, his strong team player mentality is just as important as the quality on the pitch». Managing Director Daniel Meyer added: «He will make an important contribution to the development of our overall young goalkeeper team with his personality and professional attitude». In the previous season, the club had signed talent Hellstern from VfB Stuttgart. The 18-year-old was loaned out for a season. Christian Ortag is a backup and said: «For me, it's not just about playing time, but about the role I can play within the team». He can fully identify with the plan that the club has shown him. He is looking forward to passing on his experience to the young goalkeepers and supporting them in their development. SpVgg Greuther Fürth hopes that the signing of Christian Ortag will lead to more consistency in goal. In the difficult previous season, the club had wished for more consistency in goal. Pelle Boevink, Tim Schlieck, and Silas Prüfrock had difficulties - partly also due to injuries. The future now looks promising for SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Christian Ortag will make an important contribution to supporting the young goalkeepers and strengthening the team.
